Basis for decisions

From reading to decision

Monitoring is not an end in itself. What matters is not that measurements are taken, but what can be decided better afterwards. Our data answers these five questions.

  1. 01

Close it or keep it in service

A documented condition history shows whether a structure remains load-bearing or whether closure or a load restriction is needed. The decision rests on readings, not on a snapshot.

  2. 02

    Assess remaining service life

How much longer a structure can be used can only be answered when its development is documented over months and years. That moves replacement investment to the point where it is genuinely due.

  3. 03

    Plan and prioritise repairs

Knowing which area is moving and which stays stable allows targeted repair instead of blanket work. Across several structures, this decides the order and the budget.

  4. 04

    Set inspection effort correctly

Scheduled inspection remains in place, monitoring closes the gap in between. Additional inspection rounds can be focused where something is actually moving.

  5. 05

Cut the cost of manual readings

Every on-site reading costs travel and staff, often traffic management or scaffolding on top. The sensor measures on its own, at the set interval, and reports when it matters.

Südbrücke Koblenz

The Südbrücke (Southern Bridge) is part of the Koblenz southern bypass and has been refurbished. The road authority wanted to keep the structural condition under objective, permanent observation during the works. Wireless, energy-free sensors in the concrete have handled that ever since, and the readings are available online at any time.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is structural health monitoring?
Structural health monitoring is the continuous, sensor-based observation of structures such as bridges, tunnels or car parks. Parameters like crack width, tilt, moisture or vibration are recorded permanently to detect changes and damage at an early stage.
Which structures is monitoring suitable for?
From bridges and tunnels to car parks and ports, through to balcony structures and high-bay warehouses. For each structure type we develop a tailored measurement concept with the relevant parameters and thresholds.
Does the sensor installation require cabling?
No. Our sensors are wireless and self-sufficient. Data is transmitted over mobile standards such as LTE-M or NB-IoT, so no fixed cabling or mains power is needed.
Which standards do you measure to?
We align measurement concepts with recognised standards and guidelines, such as DIN 4150 for vibration or RIL 883, Deutsche Bahn’s guideline for track monitoring, in the rail environment. Thresholds are defined individually for each structure and question.
What happens when a threshold is exceeded?
When a reading exceeds the defined threshold, the system triggers an automatic alert. Those responsible can react immediately, without waiting for the next manual inspection.
Does Infrasolute also handle operation?
Yes. We support monitoring across the entire lifecycle, from concept to installation to maintenance and operation, optionally as monitoring as a service.
