Pool joint monitoring with Smart Joint

A passive sensor cable sits in the joint mortar and reports when water enters the waterproofing layer. Without a battery, without a power connection, read via RFID through tile and mortar.

  • Passive, no battery
  • RFID readout
  • Embedded in the joint mortar

Your benefits

Know the condition of the waterproofing, do not guess it

Between tile and concrete lies the layer that the tightness of the pool depends on. It is never visible, which is exactly why damage there is noticed only once it has become significant.

Request consultation

Early warning system

Moisture in the joint is detected before it becomes visible and causes major damage.

Plannable maintenance

Away from the firefighting response, towards planned and cost-efficient maintenance.

Value preservation

Active monitoring extends the service life of the pool instead of shortening it unnoticed.

Sustainability

No waste of resources on unnecessary refurbishment and no unnoticed water loss.

Why the joint matters

The damage begins where nobody looks

Unwanted water ingress leads to major damage, often noticed only when it is too late.

Invisible hazard

Chlorinated water enters the structure unnoticed through microscopic cracks and spreads.

Corrosion and damage

Aggressive chlorinated water attacks reinforcement steel and concrete, which can threaten the structural integrity.

Costly refurbishment

Damage detected late often requires a complete closure and a cost-intensive general refurbishment.

Flying blind

Without monitoring, operators have no information on the condition of the critical waterproofing layers.

The technology

Precision meets durability

The system was developed for the harsh conditions in swimming pools and combines a robust design with RFID technology.

RFID-based readout
Contactless data capture through tile and mortar. Nothing needs to be opened.
Embedded in the joint mortar
The sensor cable sits permanently in the joint, under the tile covering, and stays there undisturbed.
Energy-autonomous and passive
No batteries, no maintenance. The energy for the measurement comes from the reader at the moment of readout.

The build-up from top to bottom

  1. 01

    Tile

The visible surface. Readout works through it.

  2. 02

    Waterproofing

The waterproofing layer, whose condition otherwise nobody knows.

  3. 03

    Sensor

    Smart Joint sits here

The passive sensor cable, embedded in the joint mortar.

  4. 04

    Concrete

The structure that the chlorinated water would attack.

Readout happens from the outside, through tile and mortar. Nothing needs to be opened.

Simple integration

Three steps, once during tiling

The effort arises exactly once, while work is happening anyway. After that the system needs nothing more.

  1. 01

    Installation

The sensor cable is embedded directly in the joint mortar during tiling work.

  2. 02

    Activation

The system is active immediately. It needs no power supply and no batteries.

  3. 03

    Monitoring

The data is read out regularly, manually or automatically, via RFID.

The difference

What changes for the operator

Without monitoring

  • Damage often visible only after years
  • High risk of corrosion
  • Costly general refurbishment required
  • Uncertainty about the condition

With Smart Joint

  • Immediate detection of moisture
  • Active protection of the building fabric
  • Targeted, affordable repair
  • Transparency and data security

Application areas

Where Smart Joint is installed

Public pools

Safety for operators and bathers at municipal facilities.

Hotels and spas

Avoiding operational downtime in high-value wellness areas.

New build and refurbishment

Ideal for integration during the construction phase, for long-term protection.

What pool operators monitor beyond this, from the pool structure to the plant room, is on the industry page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Smart Joint

How exactly does joint monitoring work?
A passive sensor cable is embedded directly in the joint. Using RFID technology, it can be measured from the outside whether moisture has entered the area. The system detects changes in the electrical resistance of the surrounding material.
Can Smart Joint be retrofitted?
A retrofit is possible when joints are renewed. The simplest and most cost-efficient integration, however, is in new builds or general refurbishments, when the tile covering is newly laid.
Does the measuring point need a power connection?
No. The sensor is passive, it contains no battery and needs no supply. The energy for the measurement comes from the RFID reader at the moment of readout. That is exactly why it can sit permanently under the tile covering.
What is the difference between Smart Joint and leak monitoring?
The leak detection cable of leak monitoring lies exposed or in the screed and actively reports via a gateway. Smart Joint sits permanently in the joint mortar of a pool, works without any power supply and is read via RFID. The task is related, but the installation situation is completely different.
